  A little rant about prayer

  is god responsible for every good thing that happens in your life?

  i ask this because a brother gave a talk several weeks ago and said that.

  he said when anything positive happens, we must not assume it was by mere coincidence, but we have to have 100% confidence that jehovah cares for us and was involved.. however, people complain that jehovah doesn’t answer their prayers and are told you have to keep asking, you need to show him you really want it bad.

  Those who believe that their prayer has been answered when an outcome they have prayed for actually happens generally fall for the idea that “ALL prayers are answered, it’s just that sometimes the answer is no”. You cannot reason logically with such people. A parent watching their child starve to death while praying for food is simply unfortunate - their prayer WAS answered.

  Such people are simply unable to see that the expression, “there but for the grace of God goes I” simply means, “there but for the lack of grace goes him”. Why God should discriminate so much doesn’t enter their heads, they are just thankful to God that He has provided for them. The idea of questioning why they have been favoured while others have not doesn't arise, after all, that would be questioning God's way of doing things, and that would never do.

  Do old time present day active JW`s genuinely believe in overlapping generations ?

  for the life of me i can not come to terms with old timers in the "truth" who could swallow this interpretation of scripture about an overlapping generation .. when jesus spoke about "this generation" .

  are their any real bible students among younger ones any more ?.

  here are 3 bible scriptures that confirm a generation is approximately 40- 50 years long give or take a few years .. 1. matt:1 :17 abraham born 2016-18 bc jesus born 2 bc approx.

  No they do not because the WT does not teach overlapping “generations”. They still adhere to the doctrine of “ONE” generation, but now the actual meaning of Jesus words “this generation” is no longer, “beyond question, that which takes a ‘generation’ in the ordinary sense”, but has now been stretched to include ‘anointed Christians’ born anywhere from the 1880s to the 1960s, so long as the latter overlap with the former while they where anointed.

  It’s not incomprehensible, it's really quite simple, just total nonsense.

  Last year I had a conversation with an ‘anointed’ witness who I have known since the early 1970s, and he claims he can clearly see the logic of this new understanding. Whether he actually believed that deep down, or was just paying lip service for my benefit I cannot say, but he seemed to genuinely accept it.

  The Truth about the bible

  it really is common sense, but nobody here seems to recognize or acknowledge this blatant and obvious truth.. the holy bible is the result of the catholic liturgy.

  they used these scriptures in their religious practices and confirmed which books would and would not be part of their cannon.

  they picked, preserved and promoted these books and gave 'the word of god' to the world.. i know that pisses off some folks, but it is the truth [not the 'truth'tm].

  How do you work that out? The bible came first, and most of it is Jewish, not Christian.

  Even if this were true (which it isn’t) it would only apply to the new testament. The OT cannon was pretty much established long before Jesus arrived.

  Ignorance of Watchtower doctrine among young JW's

  i've been having a conversation with a young jw on twitter and have, once again, come up against beliefs that do not match up with official watchtower doctrine.

  if you like you can read the full thread here (you'll need to click on some comments to open it all up).. anyway the upshot is that this jw, and many like her, believe that only truly wicked people will be killed at armageddon - not innocent babies and children or anyone who "didn't know better" perhaps because they didn't get a witness.

  it's as though they cannot accept the obvious injustice of jehovah's morality.. this jw teenager believes that all these non-jw's who survive armageddon will get their chance to prove their loyalty during the 1000 year reign of christ - again, not a watchtower teaching.. i don't really have a question to ask, this is just an observation.

  TFG, I've only heard that said about the period at the end of the 1000 years after Satan is released. I would be keen to have a reference in JW literature that says it will happen during the 1000 years. Do you have one?

  i have to say that i found item 3 on the above page raised questions in my mind.

  if an elder is deleted presumably for wrongdoing the hard copy text book is taken off him and destroyed.

  but who ensures that any electronic copies of the book in his possession are deleted?

  Let’s suppose we humour them with the existence of a first century GB. Consider this from their article;

  The point is that the Bible does not give a complete list of names of those making up the governing body.

  There is a good reason for that, the first century GB (sic) were not a bunch of self promoting, self adulating Pharisees. They were quite content to stay humbly in the background.

  Life as a Perfect Human in the New System of Things

  i have always wondered how basic things that we do to ourselves will be handled as "perfect" human beings.. i recall someone here had a quote from an old wt that said that if we fall off a roof or something that there will be some "force" to soften the fall and we will not be injured.. but, as a perfect human, if we travel to mexico and drink water from the tap, will we get the squirts, flying shits, montezuma's revenge, or whatever you wish to call it?

  maybe we will be protected as perfect human beings and have colons that also are perfect.

  but who knows.. just pondering these common things that we take for granted.. rub a dub.

  This is typical Rutherford fantasising, it doesn’t seem to have occurred to him that if you can float about like a feather, there will be no need for elevators or stairs. Mind you, negative gravity aeroplanes will still be quite useful for getting across continents in a hurry, although with eternity at your disposal, who needs to hurry?

  i can’t remember much other than there was a drawing of a young man climbing out of a hole in the ground.

  not much info but if that joggs a memory with someone i would appreciate knowing more about it.
